A few fond memories:

I will never complain about aches and pains again. This guy could beat me up and steal my lunch money. Playing rugby against 40-year olds when you are 82? Fer real (or at least I hope it is!). Also, the Detroit Lions beat the Washington Redskins to end a 19 game losing streak. For whatever reason, I like the Lions. I think they are going to be a good young team in a year or two. The best part of the game was afterwards when the players came back on the field to celebrate with some fans. It was like a college game. But hang on, college football is all about authenticity and the “love of the game” while the NFL is all about TV rights and cold hard cash, right? Follow the script, Lions! Furthermore, we cannot forget the introduction of Jerryvision. This fucking stadium with the largest high-definition television screen in the world is ridiculous. It’s like watching the game on tv while at the game while people at home watch the game on the tv at the game. Heady stuff. In consuming a whopping 635,000 watts, adds further proof (along with Kyoto and Copenhagen) that the humans will never do anything about our effects on the environment. And how about the fact that Kim Clijsters won the U.S. Open after retiring in 2007. This shit is just nuts. That she was unseeded is understandable (she hadn’t played in a long time, of course she is not ranked), but the fact that she played consistent tennis over two weeks against the best players in the world is amazing. That she only played two tune-up tournaments before the U.S. Open is outta this world. And, to top it off, although she beat relative unknown Caroline Wozniacki in the Finals, she had to beat BOTH Williams sisters to make it to the Final. Is the fact that she is a mother of note? I’m not sure (I mean, she probably has a lot of people helping her out with raising her kid, right?), except for the fact that it’s so rare. I’d also lump the Agassi business in with Clijsters, but I haven’t read the book yet. But I am sure I will have a few things to say about the USTA, Marat Safin and Martina Navratilova along the way. Finally, it was so great to see YE Yang beat Tiger for the 2009 PGA Championship. Why? Well, first, Yang was the first Asian winner on the PGA. That is awesome. Also, because on the 18th he hit one of the best pressure shots in recent history. Most people fall apart in the face of pressure at major golf championships, esp. if they are playing against Tiger Woods. That guys used to own people in those situations. Well, Yang stood his ground and brought his A game on the final hole. I still get the goose bumps watching this and always feel genuinely happy for Yang.
